@Nicholas Pearson Associates. St Antony’s College is the most international of the seven graduate colleges of the University of Oxford. Located on a sensitive site within a conservation area, in the leafy suburbs of North Oxford on the Woodstock Road. The development comprises two new buildings by Bennetts Associates to house graduate accommodation and offices and a new Porters’ Lodge.
The resulting design was creating a series of unique yet united spaces that evokes a calm oasis off a busy street. Symbolically form a new garden quad within the College grounds. The landscape invites enrich and relates to the surrounding historical context, allowing the inside and outside spaces to flow.
Sensitive design approach working with Buro Happold including building within the Root Protection Area of existing mature Lime trees, site and local context/ streetscape, a detailed appraisal of existing clay brick paving as part of a listed building consent (Hilda Besse Building). The project included extensive consultation with the College, local authority, residents and stakeholder groups.
